All Aboard with Year One
Fri 22 Apr 2016Year One had a very exciting launch to our ‘All Aboard’ topic this week when they dressed up as Titanic passengers. It was fantastic to see such creative costumes as they welcomed the First Class, Third Class and crew members on board! During the day they learned all about the differences between the classes. They all learned a dance to share with the rest of Year One at the end of the day and they explored a history box full of items belonging to a second class passenger. We hope your child came home full of enthusiasm about the new topic and are keen to find out more in the coming weeks. -

Year One visit to Marwell
Fri 04 Mar 2016Year One have enjoyed a fantastic visit to Marwell Zoo. We found out lots of information in our rainforest workshop about how the conditions in the rainforest differ to the UK, as well as learning about rainforest animals. We even got to see some of the animals up close! We also spent time looking around the zoo at the other animals.
“I enjoyed touching all the animal skins especially the Ocelot because it was nice and soft” Amelie
I enjoyed feeling the snake skin because I like snakes. It felt scaly” George
In school we have been working on our rainforest poems in Literacy where we have been using adjectives and verbs and even rhyme to make our poems more interesting. Here are some lines from our poems:
Three cheecy tigoos jumping in the mud. Matheu
Three nortee grorilos fighting in a boat. Ethan
We are also enjoying making our comic strips in ICT. We have started to create our storyboards and we will soon be creating the comic on the iPads using the ‘POW’ app

999 Hero
Fri 26 Feb 2016As we were learning about heroes before half term, the children in Year One had a special visit from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance team. They came to teach the children some basic life-saving skills of making a 999 call. This was a very interesting visit and the children should now feel more confident in the event of an emergency at home or when you are out and about.
