  • Christmas Lunch

    Thu 08 Dec 2016
We had a fantastic lunch as nearly 400 Christmas dinners were served.  The hall was buzzing with Christmas music playing, crackers being pulled and everyone enjoying their meal.  A massive "Thank you" and "Well done" must go to Mrs Gale-Ford in our School Kitchen and her staff for cooking that number of meals and serving them in our extended lunch break.  All worked tirelessly changing table cloths and laying out crackers and cutlery, serving children their meals and clearing away their empty plates.
  • Toy Service

    Fri 02 Dec 2016

We were joined by Margaret and Sue from The Salvation Army for our annual Toy Service.  Thank you very much for all the donations of toys for children in the Eastleigh area for Christmas; I know they are all very well received.

Margaret and Sue invited the staff and children to join them with their pom-poms as we all sang some traditional Christmas songs.

  • Mistletoe Fayre

    Sat 26 Nov 2016
The school was full of festivities at our Mistletoe Fayre.  We hope everyone enjoyed the day - a big thank you to all those involved in ensuring the fayre was such a success.  We are still awaiting the final fundraising figure from FoFOIS but we are advised that this could be our most successful yet, with an approximate figure of £4000 raised
  • STEM Week

    Mon 21 Nov 2016

This year we are organising termly 'enrichment weeks' as part of our curriculum. Previously these have been tri-annual events. This week we have held our very first STEM Week (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). What a fun packed learning week it has been. The week has been supported by Wyvern's Science Department and staff from IBM, a huge thank you to both of these organisations for supporting our STEM week. Our Book Week and Arts Week will follow in the Spring and Summer Terms.

    Year R

In STEM week we have been learning about different fixings and how to join materials in different ways. At the beginning of the week we looked at a variety of bags and talked about the many different ways they can be joined together e.g. stitched, glued, Velcro, stapled. We then all made a “Treasure” bag and chose how to join it together including how to fix a handle. On Thursday we went on a Nature walk around our campus searching for natural treasures. We found so many different kinds of autumn coloured leaves, terrific twigs and other interesting objects. We are using these items to decorate our bag and of course keep some of our treasures safe inside. Thank you to the grown ups who helped on our walk. It was a lovely autumn day.

In Maths we used our leaves and twigs to learn about sorting e.g. by size, colour, shape. We also used these objects to add two groups together and find the total by counting them all.

Thank you for the wonderful celebration photographs we have received so far. If your child has not brought their photos in please do so on Monday. It is helpful to label the child’s name, age, and a brief description of which celebration it is on the back of each photo. We look forward to sharing them next week in our learning.

We still urgently need a volunteer to play the piano during our Christmas performances. Please see your child’s teacher if you can help.

    Year 1

What a busy week we have had! We have had great fun in STEM week, using the lighthouse keeper’s lunch as our focus.

We have been investigating how to make the lighthouse light up by creating electrical circuits using wires, a battery and a blub.

Each class has engineered a pulley system to move the basket from the house to the lighthouse and then had a go at creating it using bulldog clips and string.

The children have worked in groups of 3 to recreate the scene from the Lighthouse Keepers Lunch, building a lighthouse and a cottage and solving each problem they have come across to put it all together. The children have been showing all of our school values whilst completing this and the Year One teachers are all really impressed how well the children have solved problems and created the project.

If you haven’t already received your child’s Maths Pack or if you have any questions, please come and speak to your child’s teacher.

    Year 2

STEM week in Year 2 has been all about flight. We have had a fun packed week investigating different aspects of this exploring wind resistance using paper aeroplanes, buggies and rockets. The children worked effectively in groups of three with our school values very much in evidence. The groups of three were working respectfully, creatively and collaboratively!

“He needed help and he asked me really politely” Luke

“She said she couldn’t do the folding in half so I helped her” Jennifer

The children were keen to talk about their learning, explaining what they were changing to make their aeroplane travel further after doing a test flight.

“We are changing the wings to make them bigger so the big wings make the plane go faster”    Darren, Ava, Maia

“We changed the side bits to make them longer” Olivia, Charlotte, Logan

The children investigated the properties of different materials by making different sails for a buggy and then testing each one, making sure the test was fair and that they measured accurately.

  • Remembrance Sunday

    Fri 18 Nov 2016
On Sunday, two of our Pupil Councillors represented Fair Oak Infant School by laying a wreath at the war memorial in Fair Oak Square.
  • Pedal Power

    Fri 11 Nov 2016
We have ten new balance bikes in Year R. We believe they will be important for developing children’s balance and coordination skills, as well as their self-confidence, helping children to progress to a two wheeled bike without the need for stabilisers. Learning to ride a bike is also a great form of exercise and can be fun for the whole family. Year R have been learning how to balance, steer and co-ordinate the bike as well as basic bike safety skills. The children are thoroughly enjoying this great experience and are looking forward to developing these skills over the year.
  • GOLD!

    Fri 04 Nov 2016

We are very pleased to let you know we have been awarded the Gold Hampshire PE and School Sport Mark. This is in recognition of the great sporting opportunities our children have been offered including a large variety of competitions such as football, hockey, gymnastics, tennis, cricket, rounders and a country dancing festival. The children enjoy competing in curriculum lessons but also with other local schools which is continuing this year. We always take more than one team to enable as many children as possible to have an opportunity over the year to participate in a competition. It is important to note the children thrive with these experiences and show excellent school values which we are proud to see.

  • Mums and Me

    Tue 07 Jun 2016

It has been so lovely to see all the mums in school for our Mums and Me afternoons. Thank you for coming in to spend some time with your children.

The children loved making their papier mache models, finding all of the clues in the scavenger hunt and making pictures using sliders and levers! The children were very creative when making their models and pictures and collaborated well in groups. We were very proud of the children’s perseverance to find and solve all of the hidden clues out in the school grounds.

  • Royal Week

    Mon 06 Jun 2016

What a fantastic ‘Royal Week’ we have all had! This week the children have been learning all about the Queen and celebrating her birthday in style! We have each written a letter to the Queen telling her what we have learnt and asking her some interesting questions!

To celebrate ‘Royal Week’, Year One  got the chance to go to each classroom and undertake a range of Queen related activities. In Spain Class the children solved a range of maths word problems using their knowledge of calculations. In Germany Class we looked at the Royal Family Tree and then the children started to make their own family tree. As part of our Literacy Learning, we planned our own stories in Italy Class and in Denmark Class we investigated which material would be best to make a waterproof coat for the Queen’s corgis!

  • Cricket Masterclass

    Wed 25 May 2016

Ten Year 2 children had a fantastic morning playing cricket at the Ageas Bowl. They practised bowling, batting and fielding. Other Year 2 children from Stoke Park Infant School, Durley Primary and Upham Primary were there too. They then played a game against Stoke Park and our players performed superbly, working as a team. They successfully won the game! The children were also fortunate to watch part of a cricket match Hampshire v Sussex and meet the U19 captain.
