  • Visit to The Apple Store

    Thu 22 May 2014

Three children from each Year One class enjoyed a morning at the Apple Store in West Quay. They took some of our school iPads with them which had photographs from their recent visit to Portchester Castle. They were shown how to edit these photographs and produce a slideshow using iPhoto. They were also taught how to produce their own piece of music using Garageband to accompany their slideshow.

On returning to school they will now teach the rest of the class their new skills. Each child received a certificate and t-shirt at the end of the morning.

  • Ivor Goodsite came to visit

    Mon 28 Apr 2014

We were recently joined in assembly by Hartfordcare and The Highwood Group.

Highwood Group are currently building a brand new care home for older people, Sunnybank House, just across the road from school. So representatives from Highwood Group and Hartford Care Ltd (care provider) visited along with Ivor Goodsite, the mascot for the Considerate Constructors Scheme, to talk to the children about the dangers of building sites and how to remain safe. They also told the children a little about what life at Sunnybank House will be like when it opens in the summer.

Ivor and his team told the children all about the various hazards found on building sites, equipment used in construction and the personal protective equipment that is used throughout the industry. However, the overriding message was very clear; children should stay away from building sites as they are dangerous places.

The children enjoyed meeting Ivor and asked lots of great questions about working on building sites.

Steve Matthews, Construction Director at Highwood Group said “This was a great opportunity for us to meet the children and ensure that they are aware of the dangers of building sites. Ivor’s a larger than life character so I’m sure they will remember him and his message about how to safe if they are close to a building site in the future.”

We are very grateful to both companies who have donated our first prize of an iPad mini for our raffle for our May Fayre.
